Intro
AdeY is a Swedish/British multidisciplinary visual artist dancing between photography and performance. Their choreographic works are first and foremost about people. Interested in the stories that bring a particular dancer to where they are in time and space, they challenge the social norm in ways that provokes audiences to both confirm and question their own beliefs. Adey’s works are politically motivated by cultural and social events that are occurring throughout the world; exploring how society defines who we are and how we are perceived.
A focus and attention to people’s right to differences drives the artist’s images, and here it is especially the differences that are about physics, gender, race and sexuality. With a humorous and experimental approach, they seek to highlight our vulnerability, loneliness, and strengths. AdeY uses the body as a médium to capture moments of intimacy, social oppression, isolation, anxiety, and depression.
In practice, it is in many ways the perception of the body that is being challenged by the artist, based on their own background and experience of the human body. The work recognises that we not only change in relationship to our environment but that our environment adapts to what we become.
AdeY is an internationally renowned artist represented by Fotogalleri Vasli Souza, Sweden & Galleri Grundstof, Denmark. Their works have been exhibited and sold at several high profile photo exhibitions, art fairs and photo festivals. In 2018 they have, amongst other things, been shown at Unseen Amsterdam, Landskrona Foto Festival, Sweden, Nordic Light Festival, Norway and the Triennale Der Photographie, Hamburg. In addition, they have been shown in a wide range of art and culture magazines, in the form of Paper Magazine (USA), Elephant (UK), Unplugged Art Magazine (Japan), Cheese (France) and Dazed (UK).
