CHROMA: Victor Nicolai
Dates: 18.3 - 10.4.22
Vernissage: Friday 18th march, 6 - 9pm
‘Chroma’ follows Nicolai’s ongoing repertoire of curious color sense, blurring, cropping, enlarging, revealing a hallucinatory strangeness from the back of his mind, giving a certain si-fi to seemingly classic art forms. He often uses psychological undertones to produce a pleasant aesthetic in his work, which manifests strange and unfamiliar situations. By using, for some, visually clichés, 'Chroma' is meant to be an eye opener; the viewer is invited to understand the situations that are imposed on us - as well as those we impose on ourselves.

Bio: Victor Nicolai (b.1992) is a Norwegian artist born in Oslo. Self-taught, he founded Pteron Studio in 2019 and co-founded clothing label Daqarr in 2020. Although Nicolai is relatively new in the gallery context, he has decorated the walls of some of Oslo’s best restaurants such as Stallen, Apostrophe and Fyr. While he consistently remains true to art and non-commercial projects: ‘visual communication’ remains a strong force in his work. He has had five independent exhibitions the last two years. One of them, 'The Butterfly Kiss', 2019, was covered by, among others, Vogue, Office magazine and Document Journal. Further he has collaborated with YME Universe, Mardou&Dean and different artists in the music industry. Nicolai continuously expands his portfolio, embracing new and different creative worlds. Most recently, he has done two collaborations to be included in the ‘Chroma’ exhibition. One with Norwegian furniture heavy-weight Fjordfiesta, transforming two objects from their collection in Pteron's own signature colors, and a second creating a unique sculpture with artist Paulina Ginda.
